My May 2015 “To Be Read” List!
So, May has come and not only is it a fun-ish month, but it’s also half way to my FAVE holiday — HALLOWE’EN! This may have had something to do with my book choices this month, just saying. Let us begin!
This month I’m going to be finishing The Diviners by Libba Bray. It takes place during the 1920’s in Manhattan, NY and has a bit of the occult intertwined with a bit of a love story behind it. I’m a smidgen over half way through it and can’t put it down. I’ve been posting my progress on my Goodreads account if you follow me on there. There’s this serial killer.. that’s like dead already. Like what!? I’m anxious and super excited that the sequel is coming out later this year.
My next book I’m hoping to start soon is A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Do we see a theme here? It’s the first book in a trilogy that I’m hoping to get engrossed in and need all the books on my shelves. Thankfully all the books have been out for a bit so they’ll be easy to come by as I can order them on Amazon or stop in my local B&N and hopefully pick them up. This is also my first time dabbling into adult fiction as I usually stick to Young Adult for some reason… maybe its the love triangles and stuff? Who knows?
The next book I grabbed was The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston. It’s a story of a witch’s daughter who lives in the current times in England, but was alive in the 1600’s. She’s immortal and has seen her mother get hung for being a witch. (Theme showing here too?) This will be the second adult fiction I’m planning on reading this month. I’ve heard NOTHING but great reviews about this book and hope to write something grand about it as well!
Up next is… Massive by Julia Bell. It’s a story about self image and the lengths we, as women, go through to keep our images to those who we see in magazines and on tv. I had started this book before, but only got about a quarter way through it before the due date came for the library. It’s a slimmer book and I hope to fly right through it as I’ve already begun it before and hope to pick up from where I left off.
Next is Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan. I’ve been wanting to read this book for, like, ever! Found it finally at the library and had to borrow it. It’s a super thin book, which can be good and bad. Of course its a love story with a twist behind it. If you’ve seen the movie (which I haven’t yet) you should probably know the premise of the book as it is the adaptation of it.
And the finale is Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen. This is the first book in a trilogy, which I didn’t know! HA! This book also takes place in the 1920’s New York (which I’ve been really into lately). The main character is searching for the father she’s never met and of course there’s murder and speakeasies. I’m excited to read this as I’m learning a lot about the 1920’s in The Diviners and their language and what the styles were way back then.
That is my May 2015 To Be Read List that I’ve checked out from the library here. We shall see what I actually finish and don’t when June 1st rolls around!
